TIGER RUG
fine art 2017 Taxidermy in the modern age of "cruelty free" is an interesting proposition.
I had collected a variety of velvet samples over the years, the upholstery squares provided at furniture stores to aid in customers decisions. I noted the high volume of neutral colors in the collection and decided that a patch work tiger skin rug was the perfect project. I designed the template in vectors and printed a draft to trace the individual patches. To add a three dimensional element I made the ears flip up. The paws and tail are double sided to add to the playfulness. The glint of velvet gives the rug an element of luxury in contrast with the comical design. The bottom is interfaced with vynil to lend strength to the otherwise fragile fabric and grip to the floor to avoid movement.
