PSI 2 2
fine art 2015 Psi 2 2 began with a desire to visualize the quantum mechanical waveforms I was learning about in my physics classes. This wish, coupled with my fascination with the intersection of nature and geometry, lead to this kinetic sculpture. The formation is dictated by a mathematical equation, and yet it creates an organic and fluid shape. The waveform modeled is the behavior of an electron in an infinite, three dimensional square well. In reality the waveform is not physical, it is a map of probabilities, detailing where an electron could be found. The aggressive nature of the piece and the traditionally masculine materials speak to the challenges a woman faces in the male dominated physics discipline.
